rebecca2Here’s a short profile of the great pioneering street photographer, Rebecca Lepkoff. Starting in the 1940s, she photographed street scenes on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Also, available now in a paperback edition, Life on the Lower East Side, the first monograph of Lepkoff’s work, highlights the lost neighborhood between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, from the Bowery to the East River.

I love how she so naturally photographed her surroundings without any specific agenda – just pure documentation of what was.
