The Southwest is currently suffering from a water crisis unlike any seen before. What we are witnessing is a nexus of 3 things: 19th-century laws, 20th-century infrastructure, and 21st-century population, economics, and climate.

In this podcast, I discuss some of the causes that have brought us to this current situation.
It’s hard to believe that around 80% of California’s water allotment goes to the Imperial Valley.

Update- My response to a critic who claims just about everything I said in this podcast is factually incorrect.

We know, you live in California…
I actually live in California, and about 80% of what you said in this video about the water situation is false. Might wanna do your research before spouting off about a topic you’re not qualified to discuss.
Hello, Mike. First, this isn’t a video. Second, living in California has nothing to do with the topic. Third, I did quite a bit of research on the topic. 80% wrong is pretty bad. Could you be a little more specific about all the things I got wrong? I know you live in California, but is there anything else you could add?
In this case, living in California has everything to do with the topic since almost everything you said is incorrect. It’s easy to click on a few links and start whining about Imperial county, but until you know the true origins of the water dilemma in CA (and beyond), best to think before you speak.
Imperial County uses almost 80% of California’s water allotment. You living in California doesn’t change this fact. You living in California has no meaning. You said 80% of what I said in this podcast was wrong. You haven’t given a single example of what I got wrong, let alone showing that 80% of what I said was wrong. Sounds like you have an emotional investment in the topic. Please show the 80% that I got wrong…
Lol, no. Imperial County does NOT use 80% of CA’s water. You seriously have no idea what you’re talking about.
Multiple sources clearly say that the Imperial Valley uses between 70% and 80% of the water allotment from the Colorado River. A simple Google search should clarify things for you. From a simple AI Google search: “The Imperial Valley uses about 20% of the entire Colorado River’s water allocation, representing roughly 70% of California’s total share.” Thanks for stopping by!
