Dear Diary: August 3, 2026

I spent the weekend camping and fishing at Elephant Butte Reservoir. There isn’t much left of the lake, as the reservoir is at 1,4% of its capacity. It is wild to see such a small body of water where a lake once was. The fishing is slow, and I am afraid the fishing will not recover for many years to come. It was sad to see all the garbage that has been revealed. I saw tires, bottles, boats, and even a porta-potty stuck in the mud. The amount of garbage people have dumped on the Earth is staggering. Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve found human garbage. 

One of the walls blew over on the new cabin I’m building during a windstorm, so I’ll spend part of the day repairing that. I should have put a cross brace on the wall. We get crazy windstorms out here on the Llano, so I should have known better. 

Jott is going in for his knee replacement this morning. I hope everything goes smoothly. Gotta go walk the dogs now.
