Improving your street photography: Connecting the dots

Spread the love

Next time you go out to shoot some street photography, try to connect two things together. Maybe one person is doing one thing while someone else is doing another. Look for expressions, postures, and gestures. Look for tension and contradiction. Look for those fleeting moments that capture the universal. Street photography should be more than capturing photos of random people walking down the street. Today’s street photography seems to place the human as a footnote. I don’t see much close work that captures the human experience. Everything seems clean and crisp, yet far removed from what I know as street photography. Lonely, distant, and soulless. That’s what I see most of the time today. It’s all good to me, I just do my old-school thing and let the trends roll on by.
