Epson V700 Photo Scanner: My Choice for Scanning B&W Negatives

Spread the love

One of the frequently asked questions that I receive from both friends and readers is, “do you have a darkroom where you make prints of your black and white street photos?”

While I love shooting and developing film, I don’t have the space, nor the time to make prints in a darkroom. Instead I’ve found a happy medium where I develop my negatives, and then scan them into my computer where I can then edit them using either Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, or Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.

Which scanner is the best? While I’m no authority on photo scanning, after spending considerable time studying reviews, I personally decided on getting the Epson V700 Photo Scanner. To me, it offers the best quality for the price.

What are my thoughts after six months of using the scanner?

Overall, I’ve been really pleased with the Epson B11B178011 Perfection V700 Photo Scanner for bringing my negatives into my “cyber darkroom.”  The Epson V700 includes a variety of film carriers: one for slides, another for six-frame film strips, another for two 4×5 transparencies, and one for eight medium-format frames. My only complaint is that the film carriers could be a bit sturdier. Other than that, I’m happy with the quality of the scans that I’ve been getting.
