Teddy “The Bear” Smith: The King of State Street – Gallery A
When I left Chicago for New Mexico back in 2016, Teddy was 64 years old. He spent his adult life living on and off the streets, and in and out of jail. Teddy had a shoplifting habit that sent him to the county jail on a pretty regular basis. He also had a strong attraction to intoxicating substances that kept him on the streets. Despite all of that, Teddy was an authentic person. He was a good soul at heart. An intelligent, witty, and kind soul. That was Teddy.
These are a few images that I captured of Teddy on a cold Chicago day. Some of these images may be included in my upcoming book, Alley Boys. These are Tri-x film images.
