President Eisenhower took control of the Arkansas Natural Guard against the wishes of angry mobs, and the Arkansas Governor! He didn't need permission from anyone, as is clearly outlined in the statute... The Governor of Arkansas argued that his state did not have to obey federal school integration laws... Just like the current Governor of California who now argues that his state does not have to follow federal immigration laws... Ridiculous stuff here... In 1957 the Governor of Arkansas used the Natural Guard to block black students from integrating. President Eisenhower used his authority to take control of the Natural Guard.
