Day Two of a Three-Day Street Photography Workshop

Spread the love

I have a long workshop day today. I’m currently working with a priest during a private three-day street photography workshop, and today will be our second of three days. We have covered a great deal of information so far, and we’ve walked the streets for several hours observing human life as it erupts from the city.

We’ve been practicing how to discover natural flows within given reality that almost seem to call out to us to frame the image in a specific way – i.e., “seeing.”  We’ve observed gestures and postures, looking for those universal elements of body language that can tell explicit stories.

Yesterday we worked exclusively with the 24mm lens, so today we will explore the world through the 50mm lens. Later tonight, we will cover using both natural light, as well as flash in low-light situations. We’ll also be shooting a little film today with my Nikon FM.

I love when workshops go well and the student has at least one “Ah-ha” moment. This workshop, has gone especially well! Have a fantastic day, and I’ll talk to you all real soon.
