Catholic Voodoo in St. Roch Cemetery

Spread the love

Whenever I visit New Orleans I’m always sure to explore at least one of the many cemeteries that are scattered across town. During my most recent trip, I visited St. Roch Cemetery which is located in the Bywater neighborhood. While I was there I discovered some Catholic Voodoo in a small chapel inside the cemetery grounds. Located inside a small room within the chapel, I discovered piles of plaster replicas of hands, feet, livers and brains which were left as “ex votos,” or tokens of thanks to St. Roch. Looks like voodoo to me!
