Speaking on Documentary Street Photography

Spread the love

I was recently invited by Dr. Cobb to give a presentation to his digital photography class at Chicago State University this past Thursday. I can report that it was very enjoyable and well received. Dr. Cob and I first met at last year’s Chicago Blues Fest. He was watching me photograph musicians and liked the way I worked, so he approached me to inquire about whom I worked for. I explained that I was a freelance documentary street photographer, and gave him my card. He then went to my website, and apparently liked my work enough to invite me to speak to his class.

During my talk I went over some of the history and philosophy behind documentary street photography, as well as a rather in-depth presentation on the elements of composition. Below is a photo taken by Dr. Cobb of me working the slideshow projector thingy! I need to get myself one of these projectors, as it worked fantastic for showing my work to the group. I look forward to returning next semester to give a talk to the next class. My thanks to Dr. Cobb for inviting me.
